Almost all the "make money online" advice I see on the internet preaches building a service business.

Nothing wrong with it - except you are just getting a job with a lot of responsibilities and very little pay in the beginning.

I strongly believe that you must build a product business. Build a software that you can sell multiple times while you sleep.

Or a course or ebook that once made can be sold 1000s of times for the same amount of money. Now you only have to do the marketing part (sometimes not even that).

Building a service is a fast way to cash, as there are people who will pay $1-5k/month for some service (there is a floor rate for every industry) and with enough outreach you can scale to $10k fast.

However, growing post that becomes an operational night mare.

On the other hand, a product business is slow at the beginning as you are building up the marketing material, product improvements, social proof, etc.

But once you have sold 1000 copies or so, word of mouth kicks in and you start getting in new customers on auto pilot. You now work very little, while your processes bring in money. You do not have to deliver anything, just ship the product (in case of digital products not even that).

A product business becomes easier every day of you running it. It also promises an exit, usually at better terms than a service business.

If you want to build a business that earns you freedom, build a product business.
